چکیده

The syndrome of left ventricular dysfunction in patients without obstructive coronary artery disease following central nervous system injury is termed neurogenic stunned myocardium (NSM). It has been described most commonly in association with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. Nonspecific electrocardiogram (ECG) abnormalities, elevated troponin I levels, and reversible regional-wall motion abnormalities on echocardiogram are observed1,2. In patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage-related NSM, angiography demonstrates normal coronary arteries and a transient left ventricular dysfunction2. A wide variety of neurologic etiologies may also give rise to NSM. These include but are not limited to intracerebral hemorrhage, ischemic stroke, traumatic brain injury, cerebral infarction, seizures, and metastatic brain tumors. AbstractBackgroundline of treatment for management of hydrocephalus despite available new techniques andsystems of shunting. Associated complications should be recognized and managed properly, but the most recognized complications are shunt obstruction which its prevalencethrough surgical approach is discussed here. Two approaches (frontal and parietal) are usedto insert ventriculoperitoneal shu...

Evaluation of ventriculoperitoneal shunt malfunction regarding ventricular catheter placement

Background: Shunting procedures specifically ventriculoperitoneal shunts are the main line of treatment for management of hydrocephalus despite available new techniques and systems of shunting. Associated complications should be recognized and managed properly, but the most recognized complications are shunt obstruction which its prevalence through surgical approach is discussed here. Two approa...

Test characteristics of parent's visual analog scale score in predicting ventriculoperitoneal shunt malfunction in the pediatric emergency department.

OBJECTIVES Many parents of children with ventriculoperitoneal shunts present to the emergency department for evaluation of a possible shunt malfunction. No study to date has evaluated their ability to predict a shunt malfunction. Our study objective was to evaluate parents' accuracy for predicting a shunt malfunction in their child. We hypothesize that parents more experienced with prior shunt ...

Retrograde migration of ventriculoperitoneal shunt to the neck. Case report.

We report a patient, given a ventriculoperitoneal shunt at the neonatal period, who presented with a painless subcutaneous mass on his neck. Plain radiographs of the cervical region showed that the swelling was made up by a migrated and coiled peritoneal catheter. We briefly discuss the proposed mechanism for this complication and suggest that this occurrence must be taken into account at the t...

Occipital intradiploic CSF pseudocyst: an unusual complication of a ventriculoperitoneal shunt malfunction.

We report a rare and unique complication of ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt malfunction. A progressively expansile, CSF-containing occipital intradiploic cyst developed in a 15-year-old boy at the site of cystoperitoneal shunt draining a Dandy-Walker cyst; the shunt was placed when the boy was 4 years old. A proposed pathogenesis of the lesion is discussed.
